These beautiful new hand knotted rugs woven by skilled Hazara, and Uzbek weavers in village homes in northern Afghanistan incorporate iconic Turkish, and Oriental tribal and palace designs together with the very best natural dyes making these rugs some of the more exciting contemporary rugs to appear on the market in recent years.

Ancient traditional designs are now being reinterpreted in contemporary styles, sizes and colors by skilled village weavers, using strong glossy wools on cotton warps, bold naturalistic patterning and beautiful quality natural dyes of walnut, pomegranate, madder root and Indigo to name a few. Infused with symbolism and cultural significance, these rugs from Afghanistan embody a curated, lived-in aesthetic that transcends time.

Their warmth, quality and durability make them a natural fit for a variety of spaces and serve as a timeless expression of a skilled heritage and comfort in nearly any setting. Excellent for both modern and classic interiors.

All hand knotted carpets have both a light and a dark side (almost like the nape in velvet) so colors may vary in photographs depending on the angle of the photo, and as well as in your home with different lighting and positioning.

Shahseven Tribal Design

This design is inspired by the Shahseven, the most famous confederation of tribal groups in north-west Iran. The majority are of Turkic origin, the rest are Kurdish, Tadjics or Georgians. The Shahseven were some of the most expert rug and kilim weavers as well as producing a wealth of textiles needed in their daily nomadic life.Persian, Caucasian and Shaman influences are evident in the design of Shahseven weavings with random scrolling, stylized birds, flowers, and many animal and human figures, as well as talismatic and symbolic designs representing fertility, power and protection..As women wove without patterns the designs used often represented the hopes and wishes of the young weaver.

They are so much more stunning in the flesh and they look perfect in situ.

I just think it’s incredible that I’m bringing kilim beauties to Australia
