Maimana Kilims are easily recognizable by their rhythmic geometric patterns and harmonious verigated colors. Inspired by antique tribal weravings, this contemporary kilim collection represents the modern transformation of tradition using ancient Afghan motifs and reinventing them with brighter, more contemporary colors.These are woven generally by women, by hand, in the homes in Maimana, capital of the Faryab province, North Afghanistan and provide a much needed source of income for the women and their families. As kilims are are woven without a pile, often they have no obvious back or front surface, so can be used on both sides.
