Shirvan is located just to the south of the Caucasus mountain range and is to the east of Gendje and to the west of the Baku peninsula. Local weaving tradition in this region excelled in exploring the numerous possible variations using a limited palette of color to maximal effect.
Traditional tribal kilims have become of great interest for modern settings as they amplify the clean lines and great expanses of contemporary architecture. This authentic Caucasian tribal kilim is animated by its great clarity of design and striking geometries.
The age-old symbols of the "Wheel of Life" and "Diamond of Strength" alternate in rows separated by ribbon borders. The fact that all the lines seem in movement instead of being perfectly linear gives the piece a human touch and reflects the constant change and irregularities of nature and of life.
